Karen Philbrick fell in love with the field of transportation when she got involved in a transportation research project while earning her PhD in psychology. She joined the Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University in 2009 as Research Director, becoming Deputy Executive Director a couple of years later and being named Executive Director in July 2014.
In this podcast she recorded for boardsavvytransitceo.com, Karen provides an overview of MTI’s history, mission and four primary functions – research, education, technology transfer, and workforce development – and goes on to describe how she works with the MTI Board of Directors. This illustrious governing body consists of 25 of the nation’s leading transportation professionals, including two of Karen’s colleagues on the CEO Advisory Committee of boardsavvytransitceo.com: APTA’s Michael Melaniphy and VTA’s Nuria Fernandez, Vice Chair of the MTI Board.
Not only will you find Karen’s podcast interesting and informative, you’ll find her enthusiasm for her role at the helm of MTI infectious. To describe Karen as “upbeat” would be a real understatement!
